Magnets are quite common in a wide range of devices we use on a daily basis. Without magnets a lot of very common items would not work such as the alternators of cars, which would greatly affect our everyday life. There is a wide range of different types of magnets available, everything from neodymium magnets to rare earth magnets and the list goes on. These magnets come if a variety of shapes and sizes, some being flexible while others are strong and solid making there possible uses vary quite a bit.
A popular magnet type is called Rare Earth Magnets. These magnets are strong and are made from different alloys of rare earth elements. A rare earth element is a collection of chemical elements that are in the periodic table and which occur naturally on Earth. Rare Earth Magnets are quite a bit stronger than most other types of magnets including alnico and ferrite magnets, making them a popular magnet choice.
Rare Earth Magnets are used in quote a bit of common everyday items including, computer hard drives and monitors, audio speakers and car alternators, just to name a few. Because of this rare earth magnets are an important part of out everyday life and should not be taken for granted.

The chemical element called Samarium (Sm) is a rare earth metal that is quite stable in air and has a silvery luster to its look. Cobalt (Co) is a hard chemical element that is found in various different types of mineral ore and also has a silverish metallic look. SmCo magnets are rare earth magnets that are made of samarium combined with cobalt.
These rare earth magnets have very strong magnetic chrematistics, but are physically very weak and are known to crack and/or chip quite easily. SmCo Magnets have been available since the 1970’s and although they are known to be less powerful and pricier than neodymium magnets, they are more useful for high temperature uses as they are more fire resistant. Ground up SmCo magnet powder can pose as a fire hazard though, since its dust has a very low ignition temperature, making it quite ease to catch on fire.
Like all magnets they can be dangerous if not handled properly, which is why you should always keep SmCo magnets away from children. This becomes even truer as you get into the more powerful magnet types and sizes. When storing magnets you should always keep them away from electronic devices like computer screens, as magnets can do irreversible damage to them.
SmCo Magnets are very strong for there size and this is due to there high energy output. They can also be quite expensive due to the use of cobalt, which is known to be quite pricy. These types of magnets are also very resistant to demagnetization. Magnets are usually demagnetized for recycling purposes, which makes SmCo magnets not very recycle friendly.

Smart marketers who want a great way to ensure their products and services get maximum exposure in homes, offices and even on the street are turning more and more to flexible magnets as a viable and cost-effective solution for advertising. Permanent magnets of the “flexible” variety are ideal for marketing and they do not necessarily break a budget even when professional design, artwork and production is desired.
The flexible design of permanent magnets meant for marketing makes them ideal for use in a number of different scenarios. Generally magnetized on one side with vinyl on the other, these magnets open the door for a variety of customized designs, looks and purposes. Some of the most popular permanent flexible magnet applications for marketing include:
· Business cards. Flexible magnets that are cut and printed to replace traditional business cards offer a great opportunity for businesses to really tout their services. Many who receive these put them on their home refrigerators or place them on filing cabinets and in other very visible locations. Not only do these permanent magnets serve to remind a homeowner or office worker of a product or service, they are generally spotted by anyone who visits or passes.
· Refrigerator door fliers. Many businesses are using Flexible Magnets printed with specials and other pertinent information to replace fliers sent out in direct marketing campaigns. Since these often make it to the refrigerator doors in homes that receive them, this marketing vehicle has real staying power.
· Metal door signs. When signs are needed for doors, Flexible Magnets work wonders. Offering the platform for printing just about any text, logo or design, these are ideal for businesses that do not want to shell out a fortune for signage, but who still desire a professional look. They work well for both interior and exterior doors that are metal of nature.
· Automobile signs. Many businesses are turning to magnets to ensure that company vehicles are properly marked or that promotions are advertised while fleets are out on the road. Rather than the expense of a custom paint job, these easy-to-replace Flexible Magnet signs make it very easy and even cost-effective to change out signs with the coming and goings of new products, services or specials. The beauty of these signs lies in the fact they are “seen” everywhere an employee’s vehicle or company fleet vehicle goes. Even a simple logo can provide constant exposure for a business.
· Displays. Printed permanent flexible magnets are also spectacular for use in trade shows and public displays. Rather than having to worry about Velcro or tape coming loose, these magnets ensure a tight fit on the right backing and a display that is eye-popping and solid.
Although a bit more costly than regular paper printing, flexible magnets tend to have a strong appeal for businesses that want to market their goods, services or even special promotions. Since they tend to “stick” around in homes and offices that receive them, the residual benefits are nothing to sneeze at. Whereas paper business cards and fliers get lost or thrown out, permanent magnets tend to become a part of the landscape. For automobile and other signage, they also provide a cost effective means of advertising.

Wind Turbine
Wind turbines are a powerful source of renewable energy. 1-3% of the suns energy is converted into wind energy, which can be used through a wind turbine to create electricity. A wind turbine is a machine used to convert kinetic energy from wind into mechanical electricity, there are two types of wind turbine, ones that rotate on a vertical axis, and ones that rotate on a horizontal axis, the horizontal wind turbine are more frequently used. How a wind turbine works is it has usually 3-4 blades, which are shaped aerodynamic to catch the wind and rotate the blades, thus the kinetic energy of the moving blades is used to work a generator, which produces electricity. Most wind turbine machines have some sort of technology to help direct the blades at the oncoming wind, whether that technology is as simple as a minor wind vane, used in the smaller wind turbine machinery, or full out wind and pressure sensitive computer that turns the wind turbine accordingly.
Out of the most common types of wind turbine (HAWT Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine), there are three main sub types.
Windmills
These wind turbines have usually four, but sometimes more, blades. Most consistently made of a wood frame, with a fabric like cloth used as a sails, are pointed to the wind manually or automatically using a tail fan. Most windmills are not used to make electricity but are directly used to do things such as pumping water from low lying land, or grinding wheat and other grain into flower.
Modern Rural Windmills
This type of horizontal wind turbine is a more modern version of the windmill wind turbine. Used for such things as using small direct-current generators for charging storage batteries, or sometimes used to pump water using the wind turbine to power it.
Common Modern Wind Turbines
Usually three-bladed, although can be found as two-bladed and even some can find a wind turbine with one blade (and a counterweight). These wind turbine machines have computer-controlled motors that sense the wind direction and face the wind turbine accordingly. These are made to go up to 6x the natural wind speed, without using much addition electricity, to generate even more electricity through the wind turbine.

Welcome to Applied Magnet where we sell strong magnets for less. The description of a magnet is that it is a substance that emits a magnetic force of its own fruition. Magnets come in either permanent or impermanent form. Permanent magnets can arise through natural means such as stone or mineral, although, most permanent magnets that are found today are manufactured.
Also, as an interesting point when a magnet is heated its magnetic properties lessen meanwhile when a magnet is cooled the opposite is true. Electromagnets are basically wires that have been corkscrewed together and have an electric current applied. This action is what generates a magnetic field in an electromagnet. Moreover, all magnets have a North and South Pole also these are called positive and negative respectively. Materials that are attracted to magnets are paramagnetic while objects that are repealed by magnets are diamagnetic. Moreover, the North Pole will be attracted to the South Pole of another magnet and vice versa.
The force between 2 magnets is measured in Newton. Magnets are used everywhere and for all types of applications. There are magnets in your television, VHS player, car, ATM card and a long range of other items as well. Actually if there were no such things as magnets then civilization as we know it would cease to exist. That is why we here at Applied Magnet take magnets seriously.
We manufacture a wide range of magnetic products designed for a whole host of applications. Also we realize that the magnets we sell are very strong. So that is why we encourage the use of magnet safety when handling our magnets. Nonetheless, we hope this article has broadened your knowledge of magnets.
For more information on Magnets or if you need to purchase a magnet in the near future we hope you visit our website at Magnets 4 Less.
