Many materials have unpaired electron spins, and the majority of these materials are paramagnetic. When the spins interact with each other in such a way that the spins align spontaneously, the materials are called ferromagnetic (what is often loosely termed as "magnetic"). Due to the way their regular crystalline atomic structure causes their spins to interact, some metals are (ferro)magnetic when found in their natural states, as ores. These include iron ore (magnetite or lodestone), cobalt and nickel, as well the rare earth metals gadolinium and dysprosium (when at a very low temperature). Such naturally occurring (ferro)magnets were used in the first experiments with magnetism. Technology has since expanded the availability of magnetic materials to include various manmade products, all based, however, on naturally magnetic elements.

Ceramic magnets, or ferrite, are made of a sintered composite of powdered iron oxide and barium/strontium carbonate ceramic. Due to the low cost of the materials and manufacturing methods, inexpensive Ceramic magnets (or nonmagnetized ferromagnetic cores, for use in electronic component such as radio antennas, for example) of various shapes can be easily mass produced. The resulting Ceramic magnets are noncorroding, but brittle and must be treated like other ceramics.
Neodymium-iron-boron (NIB)
Neodymium magnets, more formally referred to as neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets, have the highest magnetic field strength, but are inferior to samarium cobalt in resistance to oxidation and temperature. This type of magnet has traditionally been expensive, due to both the cost of raw materials and licensing of the patents involved. This high cost limited their use to applications where such high strengths from a compact magnet are critical. Use of protective surface treatments such as gold, nickel, zinc and tin plating and epoxy resin coating can provide corrosion protection where required. Beginning in the 1980s, NIB magnets have increasingly become less expensive and more popular in other applications such as children's magnetic building toys. Wind Turbine

Wind turbines are a powerful source of renewable energy. 1-3% of the suns energy is converted into wind energy, which can be used through a wind turbine to create electricity. A wind turbine is a machine used to convert kinetic energy from wind into mechanical electricity, there are two types of wind turbine, ones that rotate on a vertical axis, and ones that rotate on a horizontal axis, the horizontal wind turbine are more frequently used. How a wind turbine works is it has usually 3-4 blades, which are shaped aerodynamic to catch the wind and rotate the blades, thus the kinetic energy of the moving blades is used to work a generator, which produces electricity. Most wind turbine machines have some sort of technology to help direct the blades at the oncoming wind, whether that technology is as simple as a minor wind vane, used in the smaller wind turbine machinery, or full out wind and pressure sensitive computer that turns the wind turbine accordingly.

Out of the most common types of wind turbine (HAWT Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine), there are three main sub types.

Windmills

These wind turbines have usually four, but sometimes more, blades. Most consistently made of a wood frame, with a fabric like cloth used as a sails, are pointed to the wind manually or automatically using a tail fan. Most windmills are not used to make electricity but are directly used to do things such as pumping water from low lying land, or grinding wheat and other grain into flower.

Modern Rural Windmills

This type of horizontal wind turbine is a more modern version of the windmill wind turbine. Used for such things as using small direct-current generators for charging storage batteries, or sometimes used to pump water using the wind turbine to power it.

Common Modern Wind Turbines

Usually three-bladed, although can be found as two-bladed and even some can find a wind turbine with one blade (and a counterweight). These wind turbine machines have computer-controlled motors that sense the wind direction and face the wind turbine accordingly. These are made to go up to 6x the natural wind speed, without using much addition electricity, to generate even more electricity through the wind turbine.

How to Choose A small residential wind Turbine Based on Your electricity Bill ? For Example, If your monthly electricity consumption is 288 kwh, you will need a small residential wind turbine that has about 1kw power output (288/30/24/0.4 = 1kw).
We assume the Capacity Factor is 0.4 in the calculation.

How to estimate the Capacity Factor (CF) based on the power curve ?
Estimated CF at your wind turbine site = power output (w) at average wind speed at your wind turbine site/power output (w) at rated wind speed.
